Saturday, November 30 is Small Business Saturday 2019 – the 10th annual year we celebrate small business owners! Small Business Saturday is devoted to supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs by encouraging people to #ShopSmall. Founded by American Express in 2010, this day is celebrated each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the #SmallBizSat weekend launches the holiday shopping season.

American Express is offering free resources marketing materials for brick and mortar and online small businesses in their #ShopSmall® Studio, where you can create personalized profile photos, social media images, an email template, a flyer or poster, and more to promote your business on this important shopping holiday.
According to the 2018 Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey:
- $17.8 billion total spending reported by U.S. consumers who said they shopped at independent retailers and restaurants
- 70% of American adults are aware of Small Business Saturday
- 42% reported shopping with family and friends at independently owned businesses
- 83% reported encouraging others to also shop or dine small
- 41% reported that they shopped small online on November 24
Small business owners depend on the holiday shopping season:
- 66% said they were planning promotions, sales or activities during the shopping days following Thanksgiving – Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday – to take advantage of the holiday shopping season
- 92% said the day helps their business stand out during the busy holiday shopping season
- 74% said that the benefits of participating include bringing in more and new customers
- 70% said participating improved sales
- 69% said participating raised awareness of small businesses in their community
- 66% said participating helps their local neighborhood and community prosper
